Artist Statement
Compelling and intriguing images present themselves to me, in my inner vision. These images are usually complete, as if I were looking at a finished work of art. Sometimes, the piece of art that I create looks exactly like the original vision. Then, there are times that the art evolves and becomes a process of discovering something entirely new.
The things that I see in my imagination are the things that fascinate me in daily life. I love to observe the way people interact with each other and engage in activities. My drawings and paintings reveal fantasies about people, animals, and objects living and working together as equals. As I work the characters come to life and show me how they want to be seen.
I paint with acrylics and draw with ink, colored pencils and oil pastels. Some of my pieces are done with a variety of mixed media. I enjoy using collage to build texture. I work on paper, canvas, and wood.
Movement is the most important aspect of the art that I create. Every element contributes to the invitation to enter and participate. Walk along the path. Enter the house. Sit and have a meal with the people. Listen to the conversations. Enter into the story and find out what happens next.
